Vice President Kashim Shettima has restated the unwavering commitment of President Bola Tinubu's administration to fully adopt and execute the findings of a crucial national policy course.
Commitment to Policy Implementation
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, Class of 2025, held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru over the weekend, Shettima delivered the firm assurance. The event took place at the Directorate of Studies Auditorium.
He emphasized that the government's support for NIPSS extends beyond financial backing. "Our support must go beyond funding, infrastructure, and a conducive research environment," Shettima stated. "It must ensure that NIPSS produces implementation‑ready policy papers and that its outputs are fully integrated into national decision‑making and execution frameworks."
Focus on Blue Economy and Security
The latest course, which had the theme "Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities," delved into critical national issues. Shettima praised the 2025 graduands for their rigorous research into Nigeria's maritime domains.
"Your research clearly shows that securing our waterways and coastlines goes beyond safety alone; it speaks to livelihoods, food security, environmental protection, and national cohesion," the Vice President noted. He urged the graduates to remain active in national development by:
- Supporting policy formulation.
- Offering honest feedback on implementation.
- Driving institutional reforms in security, governance, and socio‑economic development.
Support for NIPSS Transformation
Shettima highlighted President Tinubu's clear support for the Institute's ambitious transformation agenda. This vision aims to evolve NIPSS into a digitally driven, financially sustainable, and globally recognised centre of excellence by 2030.
"His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been unequivocal in his commitment to supporting NIPSS in its transformation agenda," Shettima affirmed. He acknowledged the Institute's pivotal role in building leadership capacity for a complex world.
The Vice President also commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the people of the state for their sustained support. He credited the peaceful environment in Plateau for enabling NIPSS to thrive as a national asset where diverse ideas converge for the country's benefit.
The administration's pledge underscores a focused approach to leveraging homegrown policy research, particularly on the strategic blue economy sector, to tackle Nigeria's pressing challenges.
