Vice President Kashim Shettima has personally visited and consoled victims of the devastating bomb explosion that rocked the Gamboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Sympathy from the Presidency and a Pledge to Secure Lives
The visit, which took place on Friday, December 26, 2025, saw Senator Shettima meet with survivors receiving medical care at the Muhammadu Buhari Trauma Centre within the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). He conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire Federal Government to the affected individuals and the people of Borno State.
In a statement delivered by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President condemned the act as "senseless violence" and gave firm assurances. "We are here on behalf of the President to sympathise with the victims and to reassure the good people of Borno State and indeed the entire nation, that the government remains unwavering in its commitment to secure the lives and property of our citizens," Shettima stated.
Hospital Provides Update on Casualty Figures
During the visit, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH briefed the Vice President on the condition of the victims. The medical report indicated that 14 patients were initially admitted following the Wednesday, December 24 attack.
Tragically, one patient passed away shortly after arrival. The hospital management confirmed that five victims have been treated and discharged, while seven remain on admission. Of those still hospitalized, one is in a critical condition and receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Federal Government's Firm Response to the Attack
The bombing, which preliminary reports from police authorities say claimed at least five lives, has prompted a strong federal response. Shettima emphasized that the Tinubu administration has ordered an immediate intensification of security operations in Borno State.
Striking a determined tone, the Vice President declared, "By the grace of God, this madness will soon be brought to an end." This reaffirms the government's stated determination to conclusively tackle the insecurity plaguing the northeast region and other parts of Nigeria.
