Tinubu Cancels G20 Trip Over Insecurity, Kalu Praises Leadership
Tinubu cancels foreign trips over Nigeria insecurity crisis

President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated strong leadership by canceling his scheduled international trips to address the growing security challenges facing Nigeria, according to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Presidential Decision Amid Security Crisis

The President was scheduled to depart Abuja on Tuesday to attend the 20th G20 Summit of leaders in South Africa and subsequently proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, in a decisive move, Tinubu canceled both trips this afternoon following multiple security incidents across the country.

Senator Kalu, a prominent member of the President's political party, revealed that Tinubu has been deeply affected by recent security developments, particularly the kidnapping of children in Kebbi and disturbing events in Ilorin.

National Assembly Support for Security Focus

In a video statement, the former Abia State governor commended the President's decision, emphasizing that it demonstrates genuine concern for Nigeria and its citizens. "The President is human and for the last 24 hours, the President has been very sad," Kalu stated.

"He heard about Ilorin. He has been very sad and all his commitments in Angola and other parts of the world has been cancelled," the senator added, highlighting the emotional toll the security situation has taken on the nation's leader.

Widespread Impact on Political Activities

The security concerns have triggered cancellations beyond the presidential itinerary. Kalu noted that the Governor of Taraba State, who was scheduled to declare for the All Progressives Congress (APC), canceled the entire event due to the same security problems.

"Many activities have gone down," Kalu observed, pointing to the broader impact on the nation's political and social calendar.

The lawmaker emphasized that President Tinubu has shown "leadership, concern, and fatherly care for the children kidnapped in Kebbi," describing the President's response as exactly what the situation demands.

Kalu confirmed that the President plans to use the time originally allocated for international travel to conduct serious in-house meetings with Nigeria's security operatives and to mourn the affected girls, demonstrating his commitment to addressing the nation's security challenges head-on.
