Tinubu's Christmas Message: No Nigerian Should Suffer for Their Faith
Tinubu: No one should suffer for practising their faith

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a powerful call for religious tolerance and protection, declaring that no Nigerian should ever face suffering for openly professing and practising their faith.

A Message of Peace and Goodwill

In his official 2025 Christmas goodwill message to the nation, delivered on Wednesday and released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended festive greetings to Christians across Nigeria and the world. He framed the season as a time for reflection on the core messages of Christ: grace, hope, peace, and goodwill.

"My fellow Nigerians, as we mark this year’s Christmas, may the love of Christ and his message of grace, hope, peace, and goodwill to humanity abide with us all," President Tinubu stated. He emphasized that the celebration goes beyond festivities, serving as a reminder of Jesus Christ's role as the Prince of Peace and his message of salvation.

Commitment to Religious Freedom and Security

The President's address took a firm stand on the issue of religious liberty. "No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith," he asserted. Tinubu pointed out that love for God and humanity forms the heart of all major faiths, and these shared values should unite Nigerians as one resilient people.

He made a concrete pledge from his position as leader, stating his administration's commitment to enshrining religious freedom and protecting people of all faiths from violence. This commitment, he noted, is rooted in both divine providence and the Nigerian Constitution, guaranteeing every citizen the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity.

Honouring Contributions and Building Collaboration

President Tinubu used the occasion to acknowledge the significant role Christians have played in Nigeria's development. He highlighted how the love of Christ inspires care for the vulnerable and less privileged in society.

"We honour those who, following the example of Jesus, work tirelessly to promote peace, harmony, and tolerance in their communities," he said. The President also revealed that throughout the year, his administration has engaged with leaders from the country's two major faiths to address concerns over religious intolerance and insecurity.

"We will build on these conversations to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence," Tinubu affirmed, outlining a proactive approach to maintaining social harmony.

A Call for Safety and a Look Ahead

With many Nigerians traveling for the holidays, the President urged citizens to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing all travelers safe journeys. He concluded his message by expressing confidence in divine providence and the collective strength of Nigerians to build a greater nation for future generations.

He extended advance wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, reinforcing the themes of hope and shared destiny that defined his address.
