President Tinubu Takes Decisive Action Over Plateau and Kaduna Killings
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong condemnation of the recent deadly attacks by gunmen in Plateau and Kaduna states, vowing that these barbaric acts will not go unpunished. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify all efforts to pursue the perpetrators responsible for the violence.
Details of the Attacks
In Plateau State, suspected gunmen attacked the Angwan Rukuba district in Jos North Local Government Area, killing an unconfirmed number of residents. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived on motorcycles around 7:30 PM, opening fire sporadically and causing widespread panic as residents fled. Operation Enduring Peace deployed troops to restore calm as tensions escalated across Jos.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, bandits stormed a wedding in Kahir village, leaving 13 people dead and abducting multiple guests. Sources indicated that an armed gang, equipped with AK-47 rifles, raided shops and terrorized the community for nearly an hour. Police have confirmed the abductions, with officials visiting victims and promising a full report once details are verified.
Tinubu's Firm Response
President Tinubu described the attacks as an affront to all that Nigeria stands for, emphasizing that anyone who targets defenseless citizens under the cover of night is a heartless coward. He stressed that the objective of such attacks is not only to cause harm but also to trigger a spiral of reprisal violence and further bloodletting.
To combat this, Tinubu disclosed that his government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable security agencies to track and apprehend criminals in real time. He urged these agencies to be more proactive by acting on early warning intelligence to prevent future incidents.
Call for Community Compliance and Media Responsibility
The President also called on communities to comply with evacuation, relocation, and related advice from authorities to ensure safety. Additionally, he cautioned sections of the media against spreading misinformation that could inflame tensions or insinuate religious motivations behind the attacks, ordering security operatives to pursue those responsible for such dangerous narratives.
Compassion and Commitment
Tinubu commiserated with the families of those killed in the attacks and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured. He reaffirmed that security agencies are actively addressing the situation to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians, with a specific directive to rescue all remaining abductees from Kahir village immediately.
This decisive action underscores the administration's commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring peace in affected regions, as Nigeria continues to grapple with challenges of violence and communal conflicts.
