President Tinubu Alters Itinerary, Prioritizes Plateau Condolence Visit
President Bola Tinubu has made a significant adjustment to his official schedule, postponing a planned trip to Iperu in Ogun State to instead embark on a multi-state tour beginning with a condolence visit to Jos, the capital of Plateau State. This decision, announced by the Presidency, is a direct response to the recent wave of gun attacks in Plateau State that resulted in the tragic loss of lives among innocent citizens. The President aims to commiserate with the state government and affected communities while conducting a firsthand assessment of the security situation to address the ongoing crisis.
Revised Travel Plans and Easter Engagements
Following his visit to Plateau State, President Tinubu will travel to Lagos to observe Good Friday and participate in Easter engagements, reflecting his commitment to both national duties and religious observances. Subsequently, on Saturday, April 4, he will proceed to Ogun State to perform the previously postponed commissioning of the Gateway International Cargo Airport in Iperu. During this event, he will inaugurate two commercial aircraft designated for cargo operations, a strategic move intended to strengthen logistics capacity and boost trade and economic growth in the region.
Infrastructure and Security Projects Commissioning
In addition to the airport commissioning, President Tinubu will oversee the inauguration of the newly constructed Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, along with its fleet of operational vehicles. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance border security and facilitate smoother trade operations across the country. After returning to Lagos for the remainder of the Easter holiday, the President is scheduled to commission a series of major infrastructure projects executed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. These projects include the iconic Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a Multi-Agency Complex named in his honor, and a newly completed school complex, all aimed at improving urban development and public services.
Concluding Tour with Bayelsa State Visit
As part of his extended tour, President Tinubu will conclude his engagements with a visit to Bayelsa State on April 10. There, he is expected to commission key projects delivered by Governor Douye Diri before returning to Abuja. This comprehensive itinerary underscores the President's focus on addressing security concerns, promoting economic development, and supporting infrastructure advancements across multiple states, balancing immediate crisis response with long-term national progress.
