Activist Demands Tinubu Sack Finance Minister Wale Edun Over 'Terrible' Management
Tinubu Urged to Immediately Sack Finance Minister Wale Edun

President Bola Tinubu is facing a direct call to immediately dismiss his Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun. The demand comes from a Nigerian political activist who has sharply criticised Edun's performance.

Activist Launches Scathing Critique

Theo Agada, the political activist making the demand, did not mince words in his assessment. He publicly described Wale Edun as "a terrible manager of the economy." Agada's criticism was aired on his verified account on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

In his post, Agada suggested that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, has been covering for the finance minister's shortcomings through his own performance. The activist argued that President Tinubu made a significant error by entrusting the nation's economy to someone whose economic knowledge he deemed "stale and outdated." His conclusion was unequivocal: "He needs to be fired."

Northern Group Echoes Sentiments of Underwhelming Performance

The call for Edun's removal finds support in commentary from other quarters. According to reports, a spokesperson for the Northern Renaissance Network (NRN), identified as Abu, has also expressed disappointment. Abu posited that Wale Edun's performance since assuming office in 2023 has been underwhelming.

This perspective adds weight to the growing narrative of dissatisfaction with the economic stewardship under the current finance minister. The critique centres on the management of Nigeria's complex economic challenges, including inflation, currency stability, and fiscal policy.

Mounting Pressure on the Presidency

The public demand, made on December 25, 2025, places the issue squarely before President Bola Tinubu. The president now faces a decision on whether to heed this call for a major cabinet reshuffle or to maintain confidence in his appointed economic team.

Such public critiques highlight the intense scrutiny and pressure on key government officials managing Nigeria's economy. The coming days will reveal whether this specific demand gains further traction among other political actors and the public, or if the presidency will dismiss it as an isolated opinion.
