The UAE government has specified the exact fees foreigners must pay when renewing their residence permits, breaking the total into three mandatory charges. Each fee is set at AED 100, making the combined cost AED 300 (approximately N110,658 for Nigerian residents).
Breakdown of the Three Renewal Fees
According to the announcement, the renewal process requires three separate payments: an application fee of AED 100 (N36,886), a renewal fee for the residence permit per year of AED 100 (N36,886), and a Smart Service fee of AED 100 (N36,886). These charges cover administrative processing, the annual permit renewal, and access to digital government services.
All three fees are mandatory and must be paid before the updated permit is issued. The UAE government clarified that residents planning to renew must budget for each fee individually, as there is no single flat rate.
Impact on Nigerian Residents
For Nigerians living in the UAE, the total renewal cost converts to roughly N110,658 at the current exchange rate. This figure is based on the AED 300 combined fee, with each AED 100 charge equivalent to about N36,886.
The announcement follows a previous report by Legit.ng that the UAE had revealed the minimum savings foreigners must have to qualify for a retirement residency permit. That permit also requires applicants to meet specific financial requirements before approval.
Residents planning to renew their permits should ensure they have sufficient funds to cover all three charges, as the process cannot be completed without settling each fee.
