Uzodinma: Nigeria Was Barren Before Tinubu's Reforms

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has declared that Nigeria's economic condition before President Bola Tinubu took office was comparable to "a barren woman looking for a child." He asserted that the President's economic reforms, though painful, are now yielding the necessary results.

Fertility Drugs for a Struggling Economy

Uzodinma made these remarks on Saturday, December 7, 2024, while addressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West stakeholders meeting held in Lagos. He conveyed the collective position of APC governors, using a vivid metaphor to describe the nation's pre-Tinubu economic state.

"Nigeria was like a barren woman looking for a child before President Bola Tinubu came," Uzodinma stated. "He introduced the fertility drugs needed. Yes, they came with pains, but we are seeing results. We are not after excuses. We are interested in results."

Appeal for Unity Amid Hardship

The governor acknowledged the widespread hardship experienced by many Nigerians due to recent federal government policy shifts. However, he thanked citizens for their resilience and patience.

"We thank you for your resilience in admitting the difficulties from the reforms," Uzodinma said. He emphasized that the goal is a "more united and prosperous Nigeria," which he believes the current administration is working towards.

On Insecurity and Political Will

Shifting focus to the nation's security challenges, Governor Uzodinma expressed concern over the recent surge in kidnappings and terrorist attacks. He voiced strong confidence that Nigeria will ultimately defeat insurgents and bandits.

He pointedly questioned the sources of funding for these criminal activities, stressing that the fight requires unity and decisive political will. "God made Tinubu possible. Of late we have seen the level of insecurity and banditry increase. Who are the people funding these criminalities? Progressive governors are united. Nigeria must win," Uzodinma declared.

His comments at the Lagos meeting underscore the APC's stance on defending the administration's policies while calling for national solidarity in facing both economic and security trials.
