Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reiterated his administration's firm stance of refusing to negotiate with or yield to criminals, during a condolence visit to Bungudu Local Government Area on Thursday. The visit followed a recent bandit attack that left families mourning and residents in fear.
Governor's Message to Bungudu Community
At the palace of the Emir of Bungudu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, Governor Lawal expressed sympathy to the affected families and the entire community. He emphasized that the state government is dedicating significant resources and efforts to end the threat of banditry.
“I am here to express my sympathy and offer condolences to the families, the Emir, and the people of Bungudu following last week’s bandit attacks,” Governor Lawal said. “This is a test from Almighty Allah, and we will overcome it. The state government is dedicating resources and efforts to end the threat of banditry.”
Call for Patience and Prayers
The governor urged residents to remain patient, noting that the sensitive security situation requires perseverance and steadfast prayers. He prayed for the victims' families and assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to the injured.
“I encourage everyone to remain patient, as this sensitive issue requires both perseverance and steadfast prayers. I pray that God grants the victims’ families the strength to endure this loss. May Allah forgive those who lost their lives. We will continue to provide all necessary assistance to those injured and will do everything possible to secure the safe return of all kidnapped victims,” he added.
Emir of Bungudu's Response
In response, the Emir of Bungudu expressed gratitude to God for providing Zamfara with a caring governor who is taking measures to end insecurity. He acknowledged the governor's efforts as a member of the state's security council.
“As a member of the state’s security council, I am aware of the governor’s efforts. I am confident that we will overcome the challenge of banditry. We appreciate your condolence visit. It means a lot to the people of Bungudu LGA,” the Emir said.
Visit to Victims' Families
During his stay in Bungudu, Governor Lawal also visited the families of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu and other victims to offer his condolences. This follows an earlier report by Premium Times that Bello Abdullahi, elder brother of the abducted chairman of Bungudu Local Government, Nura Abdullahi, died from gunshot wounds sustained during a bandit attack.
On 25 July, bandits raided the LGA chairman's residence in Bungudu town, abducting him along with two other residents. The attack has heightened concerns about security in the area, prompting the governor's visit to reassure the community.
