The Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA) has made a strong call for enhanced teamwork among its employees. The agency believes this is the cornerstone for driving better productivity and improving the quality of its services to the public.
A Unified Workforce for a Common Goal
On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the agency convened a one-day staff retreat at the Lakowe Lake Golf & Country Estate. The event was notably inclusive, bringing together every level of staff from senior management to drivers, cleaners, security personnel, and gardeners.
In her opening address, the General Manager of LASIAMA, Ms. Adenike Adekanbi, underscored the critical importance of collaboration. She stated that no single unit or cadre within the agency can operate successfully in isolation. The retreat, she explained, was strategically designed to dismantle internal silos and foster a culture of shared responsibility across all departments.
"We must work together and see ourselves as one team," Adekanbi urged. "When people collaborate, take ownership, and support one another, the quality of our output improves and the public benefits." She described the gathering of the entire workforce as a deliberate step to reinforce unity and create an environment where ideas and duties are freely shared.
Expert Insights on Teamwork and Productivity
The retreat, themed "LASIAMA: Energise, Reconnect, Reflect, Recharge," featured interactive sessions led by Mr. Yomi Ojute, Lead Consultant at The Yomi Ojute Company. Ojute focused on practical aspects of teamwork, leadership, and cross-unit cooperation.
He backed the discussion with compelling data, citing a 2016 Gallup report that found organizations with high staff engagement achieve 21% higher profitability and 17% higher productivity. Furthermore, he referenced a McKinsey study indicating that highly collaborative teams are five times more likely to reach their objectives.
Ojute also warned of the consequences of poor collaboration, which include duplicated efforts, increased errors, missed deadlines, and low staff morale. To provide a practical solution, he introduced staff to the RACI framework (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed) through hands-on exercises. These were aimed at clarifying roles and enhancing coordination.
In one such exercise, participants were grouped and tasked with redesigning responsibility for repairing faulty streetlights. The best-performing group received a reward. Ojute also encouraged smarter work practices by explaining the 80/20 principle, highlighting how focused collaboration on key tasks yields the greatest results.
Building an Inclusive and Effective Culture
Earlier at the event, the Director of the Public Affairs Unit, Mr. Rasak Musbau, stated that the retreat highlighted LASIAMA's dedication to inclusiveness and collective effort. "This gathering reminds us that our strength lies in collaboration," Musbau said. "Regardless of role or designation, every staff member has a part to play in achieving our collective goals."
Feedback from staff participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many described the retreat as both timely and impactful, noting that it significantly strengthened working relationships and improved mutual understanding across different units of the agency.
The clear message from the retreat is that LASIAMA is prioritizing a cohesive and collaborative internal culture as the primary engine for delivering excellent infrastructure management services to Lagos State.
