Ogun Appoints New Statistician-General, Adebayo

In a significant move to bolster its data and statistical framework, the Ogun State Government has announced a key appointment within its civil service.

New Leadership for State Statistics

Governor Dapo Abiodun officially approved the appointment of Mrs. Omolara Adebukola Adebayo as the new Statistician-General of Ogun State on Friday, December 19, 2025. This decision is aimed at reinforcing the operations of the Ogun State Bureau of Statistics and enhancing the overall quality of the state's Civil and Public Service.

The announcement was made public through a statement issued by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya. He clarified that the governor's action aligns with the provisions of Section 12 (1) of the Ogun State Statistical Law, 2012.

A Career Civil Servant Takes the Helm

Mrs. Adebayo was selected from the pool of successful directors under the Ogun State Pipeline Leadership Development Programme. This scheme is specifically designed to groom and supply competent officers for top-level appointments within the service.

Her career trajectory within the Ogun State Civil Service is notable:

  • She joined the service on November 19, 2001, as a Statistician on Grade Level 08.
  • Through steady progression, she rose to become Deputy Director (Statistician) on Grade Level 16, effective January 1, 2024.
  • Following the statutory retirement of the former office holder in May 2025, she had been acting in the capacity of Statistician-General.

Academically, Mrs. Adebayo is well-equipped for the role. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan, obtained in January 1999. Her qualifications also include an Oracle 11g Certification from 2012, where she scored an impressive 95 per cent, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics from Ogun State University.

The statement from the Head of Service urged the newly appointed Statistician-General to bring dedication, diligence, and selflessness to her new role, while relentlessly pursuing excellence in service to the state.

Police Swiftly Aid Defrauded Cameroonian National

In a separate incident highlighting law enforcement responsiveness, the Ogun State Police Command provided crucial assistance to a Cameroonian woman, Kelly Maffo, who was defrauded in the Ibafo area.

The case of obtaining money under false pretences was reported at the Ibafo Division on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. The victim was allegedly defrauded of over N2 million under the guise of visa processing.

After realizing she had been deceived and abandoned along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Maffo sought help at the nearest police station. Officers received her immediately and launched an investigation. Sources described the police response as swift, professional, and compassionate.

Detectives promptly began efforts to trace the suspects. In an exceptional display of leadership, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ibafo Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ajayi, personally intervened to ensure the victim's welfare. He reportedly funded Maffo's transport back to the airport, ensuring her safety and that she did not miss her scheduled flight.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects are ongoing. The incident has been described by observers as a strong reflection of the people-friendly, responsive, and service-driven posture of the command.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the DPO and officers involved. He urged public vigilance and support: “I urge members of the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to support the Police with credible information. The Ogun State Police Command remains fully prepared to ensure a safe, peaceful state.”
