Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has been praised for ushering in a new era of hope and progress, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Investment Promotion and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Chief Jerome Nbaonu Green-Amakwe. In a Democracy Day goodwill message, Green-Amakwe highlighted that the people of Abia are celebrating not only the nation's democratic journey but also a remarkable transformation unfolding across the state.
Deep Significance of Democracy Day
Green-Amakwe noted that this year's commemoration carries deeper significance for Abians, symbolizing renewal, responsible governance, and a new era anchored on accountability, development, and service. He asserted that if any state has special reasons to celebrate Democracy Day with gratitude and optimism, Abia stands prominently among them, as its recent trajectory has become a subject of growing national attention.
Past Challenges and Turning Point
For more than two decades before 2023, Abia grappled with developmental challenges, unfulfilled promises, and missed opportunities. The period was marked by widespread concerns over infrastructure, public services, and economic growth, prompting calls for change. The turning point came with the election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti and his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, signaling a new chapter driven by reform, transparency, and people-centered leadership.
Grassroots Mobilization and Key Figures
Green-Amakwe revealed that the journey to political victory was neither accidental nor effortless. A dedicated coalition of supporters, stakeholders, and grassroots mobilizers remained steadfast in their conviction for a better Abia. The campaign structure was chaired by the late Hon. Nnanna Ngwu, with Hon. Acho Obioma as Director-General. Key coordinators across senatorial zones and local government areas worked tirelessly, including Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Mike Akpara, Rtd. Navy Captain McDonald Uba, Ishmael Onuoha, Prince Okey Kanu, Ogbonna Okereke, High Chief Victor Ikeji, Mrs. Magdalene Ugoanusi, Uloaku Iheanacho, Dike Nwankwo, Uche Nwosu, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Ottah Kalu (OTK), Dr. Nwokocha O. Eze, Ceekay Igara, Fr. Chris Anukuru, and Rtd. Col. Ezichi Kalu, alongside numerous grassroots coordinators.
Governor Otti's Leadership Style
Supporters credit Governor Otti's leadership style—characterized by strategic planning, discipline, focus, and commitment—for sustaining the momentum of reform. With a team of dedicated public servants and stakeholders, he has inspired confidence among citizens and strengthened the belief that governance can be a catalyst for positive change.
Call for Continued Unity
As Democracy Day is celebrated across the country, tributes are paid to all whose sacrifices and faith helped shape Abia's journey. Green-Amakwe congratulated Governor Otti, Deputy Governor Emetu, members of the administration, grassroots mobilizers, stakeholders, and all Abians, calling for continued unity, integrity, transparency, and dedication to the collective vision of a prosperous state. He expressed optimism that with sustained commitment, Abia's transformation will flourish for generations.
