Ogun Governor Inspects Progress, Pledges Swift Completion of Vital Road
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has given a firm assurance to residents that the long-awaited 20-kilometre Akute–Ijoko Road in Ifo Local Government Area will be completed by his administration in the near future. The governor made this commitment on Friday, 14th of November, 2025, during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction work.
Phased Implementation for a Strategic Project
Governor Abiodun's inspection came shortly after he officially commissioned the newly completed Akute–Ajuwon–Alagbole Road, also located within the same local government area. He emphasized that the larger Akute-Ijoko project is being executed as part of a carefully designed, phased implementation plan. "This road is almost 20 kilometres long — 20 kilometres of dual carriageway, which means 40 kilometres with drainage. By His grace, we will finish this road," the governor declared with conviction.
He revealed that the project has been strategically divided into two phases. The first phase covers a 9.7-kilometre stretch and extends slightly beyond the Agbado Station area, connecting to the Sango–Lanbe–Ijoko Road corridor. This structured approach, according to the governor, ensures efficient execution and aligns with the administration's clear vision for the infrastructure.
Addressing Past Neglect and Prioritizing Development
Governor Abiodun did not shy away from addressing the road's troubled history. He recalled that the vital corridor had been abandoned for years by previous governments. He was particularly critical of one past administration, stating that its poorly coordinated intervention attempts left the road in a much worse condition than it was originally. "You know it is impossible for government to function without coordination. You must have a plan and you must have priorities," he stressed, highlighting his government's methodical approach.
The governor explained that his administration's focus on road development across Ogun State is driven by a desire to bolster the state's socio-economic status. He identified infrastructure, particularly roads, as a key driver of economic growth. His government conducted wide consultations with stakeholders to identify roads with the greatest economic impact, prioritizing those connecting farms to markets, linking different parts of the state, and facilitating interstate travel, especially with neighbouring Lagos.
The Akute-Ijoko Road is a crucial connector between Ogun West and Ogun Central, linking Sango-Ota and Ifo II through Ifo I. For Governor Abiodun, the ultimate motivation is delivering the dividends of democracy. He expressed that seeing the joy and relief on the faces of residents during his inspection was profoundly heart-warming. He also restated that his focused administration would remain undeterred by the rhetoric of critics, choosing instead to concentrate on tangible results for the people of Ogun State.
