Former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, citing a commitment to deliver purposeful governance, economic transformation, and measurable development across the state.
Declaration at Liberty Stadium
Adelabu made the announcement during his official declaration for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty, Ibadan. The event drew party faithful and supporters who gathered to witness the declaration.
The governorship aspirant emphasized that Oyo State deserves visionary leadership, competent governance, improved security, and prosperity that would positively impact every household. He stressed that governance must transcend rhetoric and produce tangible results capable of transforming the state from “potential to prosperity.”
Vision for Oyo State
“I am contesting again because I believe Oyo State deserves more. Oyo State deserves visionary leadership, competent governance, economic transformation, security and stability,” Adelabu stated. He added that his experience, exposure, administrative capacity, and leadership qualities position him to lead the state effectively.
Adelabu unveiled the “Oyo Rebirth Agenda,” a comprehensive development blueprint centered on economic revival, job creation, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and governance reforms.
Key Promises
Among his pledges, Adelabu promised to establish industrial and agro-processing hubs across the state’s geopolitical zones, launch a one million jobs initiative, support small businesses with grants and low-interest loans, and promote youth innovation and digital economy opportunities. He also committed to strengthening security architecture, improving local government administration, reforming the civil service, and promoting tourism and cultural heritage.
Legacy and Party Unity
Drawing inspiration from his grandfather, the late nationalist and politician Adegoke Adelabu, he said his ambition was rooted in a legacy of visionary leadership and progressive politics. On party unity, Adelabu urged APC leaders and members to close ranks ahead of the 2027 election, emphasizing that victory could only be achieved through solidarity and collective commitment.
“This project is bigger than one man. We must unite, work together and build together. There is no victory without solidarity,” he said.

Adelabu described the 2027 election as a defining moment for the future of youths, job creation, healthcare, education, and inclusive governance in the state. “I offer myself not merely as a politician, but as a servant and committed progressive determined to deliver results,” he concluded.
