In a significant gesture of support, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has presented a sum of N600 million to the families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as other victims of insecurity in the state.
A Tribute at the Armed Forces Celebration
The substantial donation was made public on January 15, 2026, during the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day event held at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri.
Governor Uzodimma praised the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen heroes while performing their duties to protect the state and nation. He expressed deep regret over the loss of lives caused by insecurity but noted with satisfaction that the troubling security situation has now been largely brought under control.
Governor Attributes Success to Divine Guidance
In a related development marking his administration's milestone, Governor Uzodimma attributed his achievements over the past six years to divine intervention. He described his tenure's accomplishments as “a product of divine guidance.”
He made this declaration while speaking at a thanksgiving service to commemorate his sixth anniversary as governor. The service was held at the Government House Chapel in Owerri.
The governor extended his gratitude to religious leaders, community leaders, various stakeholders, security agencies, and the law-abiding citizens of Imo State. He credited their unwavering prayers and support as key factors that have restored peace and stability across the state.

Officiating the anniversary mass, the Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese and Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastic Metropolitan, Dr. Lucius Ugorji, acknowledged the significance of the administration's achievements within the six-year period.
