Kano Gov Yusuf Backs Tinubu's Security Emergency, Vows to Hunt Bandits
Kano Gov supports Tinubu's security emergency declaration

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's declaration of a national emergency on security, calling it a timely and necessary intervention to address the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

Security Crisis in Border Communities

The governor's endorsement comes amid rising security concerns in Kano's border local government areas. Communities in Shanono, Bagwai, and Tsanyawa have experienced increased bandit activities, including kidnapping and cattle rustling. These areas border Katsina State, creating vulnerable points for criminal elements to operate.

Although Nigerian Army troops successfully repelled bandits in Shanono a few weeks ago, neutralizing 19 criminals and intercepting their weapons, the security situation remains volatile. The recent kidnapping of 10 villagers demonstrates the persistent threat facing these communities.

Kano's Comprehensive Security Response

Governor Yusuf, speaking during the opening of the 34th Executive Council Meetings on Thursday, reassured citizens that his administration is taking decisive action. The state government has mapped out strategies with security personnel to confront the emerging bandit threats head-on.

"We understand that the bandits are taking advantage of Tsanyawa, Shanono, Bagwai and other bordering villages to strike, but we are taking every necessary measure to ensure that Kano remains safe," the governor emphasized.

Yusuf highlighted that Kano State is receiving full cooperation from security agencies and pledged the state's complete support in implementing the federal government's security directives.

Broader Development Agenda

Beyond security concerns, the governor also addressed his administration's development priorities. He reaffirmed commitment to the "Budget of infrastructure, inclusive growth, and sustainable development," emphasizing fiscal responsibility and key sector strengthening.

The administration is focusing on critical areas including:

  • Education and scholarship programs
  • Healthcare improvements
  • Infrastructure development
  • Urban renewal projects
  • Security enhancement

Governor Yusuf described government scholarship schemes as strategic investments in human capital development, aimed at nurturing future innovators and leaders who can drive socio-economic transformation in the state.

The governor also commended the Kano Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for their ethical reporting standards and professional coverage of state developments. During the event, the chapel decorated Governor Yusuf with a customized lapel, recognizing him as an ambassador of the chapel.
