Lagos Government Guarantees Smooth Traffic for President Tinubu's Two-Day Official Visit

The Lagos State Government has provided firm assurances to residents regarding the maintenance of free-flowing traffic and minimal disruptions during President Bola Tinubu's official two-day visit to the state scheduled for April 8 and 9, 2026. During this period, President Tinubu is set to commission several key infrastructure projects that have been completed under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Coordinated Efforts for Seamless Movement

Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, detailed the comprehensive preparations in a press briefing held on Monday. He emphasized that the state is collaborating closely with both federal and state security and traffic management agencies to ensure that all arrangements are executed seamlessly, securely, and in a manner befitting the occasion. Security, logistics, and traffic management plans are being carefully coordinated to minimize disruptions while ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants, Omotoso stated.

He urged residents to fully cooperate with authorities by adhering to all traffic advisories and security guidelines that will be issued in advance of the visit. Lagos, as Nigeria's premier commercial hub, requires such meticulous planning to sustain daily activities without significant interruption.

Key Projects for Commissioning

The projects earmarked for inauguration reflect the administration's substantial investments across multiple sectors, including transportation, infrastructure, education, and public sector development. According to Omotoso, these initiatives have been strategically designed to address the evolving needs of the state's rapidly growing population, enhance mobility, stimulate economic activity, and improve social welfare.

The highlight of the projects is the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, which is specifically engineered to alleviate traffic congestion across the metropolis. Other significant developments include:

  • The Lagos State Geographic Information Service building
  • A multi-agency complex named in honor of President Tinubu
  • A newly completed school complex
  • The Mid-Level Agro Produce Hub located in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki

Revitalizing Educational Infrastructure

One of the most notable projects is the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, which comprises 36 public schools—31 secondary and five primary institutions—spread across 11.73 hectares of land in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area. This redevelopment, originally established over four decades ago during the tenure of former Governor Lateef Jakande, represents a major renewal of educational infrastructure in Lagos.

Omotoso highlighted that the complex serves approximately 20,000 pupils and demonstrates the government's people-oriented approach. Due to challenging soil conditions, the new structures were built on 25-meter deep pile foundations to guarantee structural stability. The facilities are extensive and include:

  • A standard football pitch with a running track
  • Multipurpose sports courts
  • A fire service station
  • A health centre
  • Perimeter fencing
  • Water harvesting systems
  • Biodigesters
  • Solar power installations

Additionally, the project incorporates dedicated facilities for persons living with disabilities, equipped with vertical lifts, and a vocational centre for skills acquisition in various trades. Omotoso expressed confidence that these upgraded facilities will significantly enhance the quality of education within the community.

Ensuring Long-Term Maintenance

To prevent deterioration and ensure the sustainability of these new infrastructures, the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA) will oversee the ongoing maintenance of the facilities. This proactive measure underscores the government's commitment to preserving the investments and maximizing their long-term benefits for residents.

Overall, the Lagos State Government's assurances and detailed planning aim to balance the prestigious occasion of President Tinubu's visit with the practical needs of maintaining normalcy in the bustling metropolis.
