Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has made a firm commitment to safeguarding the future of the state's young population. He assured that his administration will continue to place the highest priority on the welfare and quality education of children, describing this focus as the fundamental pillar for building a prosperous and decent future for Enugu.
Zero Tolerance for Child Exploitation
During a meeting at the Government House, Governor Mbah reiterated his government's zero tolerance policy for all forms of child abuse and exploitation. He specifically condemned practices such as child marriage, sexual abuse, child labour, and the trafficking of minors. The governor received the Enugu State Children's Parliament, which was led by its Speaker, Chimamanda Amobi, using the occasion to underscore his administration's protective stance towards the rights of every child.
Massive Budgetary Allocation to Education
Governor Mbah provided concrete evidence of his commitment by highlighting his administration's consistent financial investment in the education sector. He revealed that over 30 per cent of Enugu State's annual budgets for 2024, 2025, and 2026 have been consecutively dedicated to education. This substantial allocation underscores a strategic belief that human capital development is non-negotiable for sustainable growth.
Investing Today for Tomorrow's Future
The Governor articulated a clear vision linking current investments to future outcomes. He stated that a society which fails to adequately invest in the quality education and overall welfare of its children is one that has already compromised its own future. While acknowledging the significant strides made, Mbah emphasized that the full benefits of these huge educational investments are a continuous journey towards securing a brighter tomorrow for all citizens of Enugu State.
