Okpebholo Praised for Handling False Presco Land Revocation Notice
NGO Commends Okpebholo Over Presco Land Controversy

The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa has publicly commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for his decisive and transparent response to a controversial and false publication regarding the revocation of Presco Plc's land rights.

Swift Government Action Prevents Investor Panic

Governor Okpebholo's administration moved quickly to distance itself from a newspaper notice that falsely announced the revocation of Presco Plc's Statutory Right of Occupancy. The state government officially labeled the publication as unauthorized, misleading, and entirely false, thereby averting potential panic within the investment community.

In a statement released in Abuja on 29 November 2025, the coalition's Country Director, Mr. John Mayaki, applauded the governor's actions. He stated that the governor's prompt clarification demonstrated maturity and responsible leadership, which are crucial for maintaining economic stability and fostering sustainable development in Edo State.

Root Cause and Administrative Review

The state government revealed that the misleading publication was issued unilaterally by the former Managing Director of the Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS). This individual acted without any official approval and in direct violation of established government procedures.

In response to this breach, the Edo State Government has initiated a comprehensive administrative review. This move is designed to strengthen internal controls and prevent any similar unauthorized actions from occurring in the future, ensuring orderly land administration.

Reinforcing Investor Confidence and Rule of Law

The coalition highlighted that the governor's firm stance was instrumental in restoring calm and protecting livelihoods that depend on the state's agricultural and industrial productivity. By swiftly disowning the false notice, the government reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and the protection of strategic economic assets like Presco Plc.

"We are encouraged by the governor's insistence on due process, transparency, and orderly land administration," the coalition's statement read. "This is the type of governance that promotes economic growth, strengthens trust in public institutions, and attracts both local and foreign investment."

The group concluded by urging all stakeholders, particularly in the agricultural and industrial sectors, to continue supporting the government's efforts to maintain a stable and investor-friendly environment in Edo State.
