Security Call for Northern Nigeria's Development Projects
The governments of Northern states in Nigeria are facing a critical call to significantly strengthen their security forces. The urgent need is to protect multi-billion naira national critical infrastructure from vandals and individuals with criminal intentions operating within their territories.
PEMP's Appeal for Collective Responsibility
This vital appeal was made by Nuhu Abdullahi, the Convener of the Public Enlightenment Movement Project (PEMP). He addressed stakeholders on 18 November 2025, during a discussion on the Federal Government's renewed developmental projects for the Northern region. Abdullahi reminded all parties of their essential role and the collective responsibility required for effective security management. He strongly emphasized that no meaningful development can thrive amidst security threats.
The coordinator highlighted the massive investments the Federal Government is making in both capital and social infrastructure. He urged citizens to take ownership of these ongoing projects to secure the future economic benefits for the entire region.
Major Federal Projects and Citizen Cooperation
Abdullahi detailed several key development efforts underway in Northern Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, designed to boost trade, travel, and economic opportunities. These landmark projects include:
- The massive 2,136 km Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.
- The 926 km dualised Sokoto–Zamfara–Zaria road.
- The 500 km Benue–9th Mile Enugu road.
Beyond transportation, the Federal Government is also channeling investments into agriculture and community development. A key initiative is the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, aimed at modernizing livestock farming and reducing longstanding conflicts.
Abdullahi noted visible improvements, stating that new railways, roads, and pipelines are generating hope and creating new job opportunities. However, he stressed that while the government is enhancing security across the North, citizens must play their part. He encouraged the public to support security agencies by sharing timely information, underscoring that peace and safety are a product of everyone's cooperation.
He also pointed to equitable fund allocations to Northern states, ensuring every community benefits from national progress. Abdullahi concluded by appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for its unwavering commitment and reinforced trust in developing Northern Nigeria, matching the support given to other regions.
