The people of Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State staged a grand civic reception on Tuesday to honour Governor Alex Otti, celebrating his developmental achievements and commitment to the area. The event drew a massive crowd of residents, traditional rulers, and stakeholders, reflecting widespread gratitude for a government that has restored hope, peace, and progress.
Key Projects Delivered Under Governor Otti
Community leaders highlighted that Governor Otti has not only appointed several Umunneochi indigenes to key government positions but also executed tangible projects across the LGA. Among the most notable is the 11.27km Mbala–Umuaku–Ngodo Road, which is nearing completion and expected to be commissioned soon. This road will connect agrarian communities, reduce travel time, lower the cost of transporting farm produce, and attract investment.
Another major achievement is the upgrade and equipping of 12 Primary Health Centres, bringing quality healthcare closer to grassroots communities. Additionally, the Umualom Road, constructed through the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), has improved internal connectivity within the area.
Security Transformation in Umunneochi
Umunneochi was once notorious for kidnappings, armed robbery, and ritual killings, making it a no-go area. Governor Otti decisively changed this by establishing the Abia State Joint Security Taskforce, codenamed Operation Crush. The initiative has successfully confronted criminals, restoring peace and normalcy to the LGA. Residents now enjoy improved safety and security.
Governor Otti’s Address and Future Plans
In his address, Governor Otti thanked the people for their unwavering support and promised additional projects, including more roads, bridges, and hospitals. He reaffirmed his commitment to the continued transformation of Umunneochi and Abia State, emphasizing his track record of keeping promises.
The governor’s investments in infrastructure, health, and security are described as economic enablers. The Mbala–Umuaku–Ngodo Road alone is expected to boost trade and agriculture, while the health centres will save lives and enhance productivity. community leaders urged residents to protect and maintain these projects for future generations.
Mass Defections Signal Confidence in Administration
The large turnout at the reception underscored public acceptance of Governor Otti’s leadership. During the ceremony, dozens of members from opposition political parties defected to the governor’s party, the Labour Party. This mass defection was seen as a vote of confidence in his developmental strides and transformation agenda.
Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Otti, noted that the people of Umunneochi have spoken with one voice: they stand with Dr. Alex Otti and are ready to partner with his government to build a greater Abia.
