YOWICAN Demands Ribadu's Removal as NSA Over Security Crisis
Christian Youth Group Calls for Ribadu's Removal as NSA

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) in the North-East zone has made a strong appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately reorganize the country's security framework, starting with the removal of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Convention Demands Security Overhaul

This urgent demand emerged during YOWICAN's first-ever North-East Convention held in Jalingo, Taraba State over the weekend. The gathering brought together state officials, Christian Association of Nigeria leaders, and youth representatives from across the region.

Bako Adashu Elijah, YOWICAN National Secretary, addressed the convention, stating that Nigeria's escalating security problems require immediate reforms that he believes cannot be accomplished under the current NSA's leadership.

"For genuine national security transformation to take place, the present National Security Adviser must be shown the way out," Elijah declared emphatically during his speech.

Christian Youth's Moral Responsibility

While criticizing the federal government's security approach, Elijah praised Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, for his consistent support of the Christian community and ongoing development initiatives in the state.

The YOWICAN leader urged Christian youths to embrace moral responsibility when confronting national issues, encouraging them to become "God's instruments for justice and righteousness." He emphasized that the mission of Christian youth extends beyond church activities, stressing their vital role in speaking truth to power and protecting vulnerable communities while maintaining gospel values.

Elijah referenced recent international comments about violence in Nigeria, describing them as a global reminder of the severe hardships experienced in many Nigerian communities.

Truth and Justice Must Prevail

Responding to remarks by political figure Daniel Bwala, Elijah maintained that YOWICAN's security concerns are grounded in the daily realities faced by ordinary Nigerians affected by violence.

"We owe the truth to God, to ourselves and to the generations coming after us," he stated firmly.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Esther, the YOWICAN secretary warned that remaining silent in the face of injustice provides no protection, regardless of one's social status or influence. He reiterated the organization's direct message to the President: "Mr. President, please replace the National Security Adviser."

Elijah emphasized that Christian youths remain committed to peaceful engagement, stating: "Christian youths are not violent; we are truth-speaking. Peace and justice must coexist."

He called upon elders and leaders within the Christian community to speak boldly on national issues, cautioning that silence could undermine the foundation being established for future Christian leadership.

The Northeast chapter expressed solidarity with other YOWICAN groups—particularly in Plateau State—that have issued similar demands for stronger federal action on security matters.

"These matters cannot be resolved by political narratives. They require sincerity, truth and leadership rooted in equity," Elijah added.

Highlighting the Northeast as one of the regions most severely affected by violence and population displacement, he called for immediate intervention from all levels of government.

"Our people have suffered enough. Our communities need healing, restoration and meaningful support," he concluded, echoing the sentiments of many in the region who have endured years of security challenges.
