Borno Children, Women Freed After 3 Months Captivity

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued five abductees, including three children, who were held captive for three months after a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The rescue operation took place on 19 June 2026 at about 11:40 a.m. during a perimeter clearance patrol by troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion in the Bakasi general area.

Rescue Details

According to security sources, the troops sighted five individuals wandering in a bush near Ngoshe and suspected they had escaped from Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists. The rescued victims were identified as Fatima Adamu, 80; Maryam Yakubu, 55; Abubakar Ibrahim, 12; Musa Ibrahim, 11; and Fadima Adamu, 8. Preliminary investigation revealed they were residents of Ngoshe and had been abducted during a terrorist attack on 3 March 2026.

Medical Care and Reunification

Following the rescue, troops conducted clearance operations within a 500-metre radius to ensure the area was secure. The abductees received first aid from military personnel and were handed over to the community head, Mallam Bulama Kunda, for reunification with their families. The military stated that the general security situation across the North-East theatre remains calm but unpredictable, and troops remain vigilant in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
