Terrorist Attack in Heipang Community Results in Three Fatalities and One Injury
In a tragic incident, armed terrorists have killed three youths and injured another during a midnight assault on Pwomol village, located in the Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State. The attack, which occurred around midnight, specifically targeted vigilante youths who were on guard duty in the community. This marks the second such assault on the area within a single week, raising concerns about security in the region.
The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, while the community grapples with the aftermath of the violence. Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), provided details on the arrest of a suspect. He stated that security operatives apprehended one of the suspected attackers alive at approximately 1:00 a.m. The suspect was captured in the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa, with blood stains found on his body, indicating possible involvement in the attack.
The suspect is now in the custody of security operatives at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi, as investigations continue. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association, led by its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has strongly condemned the attack. In a statement, the group called for a thorough and transparent investigation by security agencies to ensure accountability and justice.
Demands for Justice and Community Response
The BYM has demanded that the arrested suspect be brought to justice and compelled to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of other perpetrators involved in the attack. This call for action underscores the community's desire for swift and effective measures to prevent further violence.
In their statement, the BYM commended the swift response of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, for their efforts in apprehending the suspect and securing the area. The group also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies to enhance community safety.
