Police Kill Suspected Lakurawa Bandit in Kebbi

Security forces in Kebbi State have eliminated a suspected member of the notorious Lakurawa bandit group during a fierce early morning confrontation. The operation also led to the recovery of two motorcycles used by the assailants.

Dawn Raid and Fierce Gun Battle

According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the incident took place in Malan Yaro village, Dandi Local Government Area. Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, stated that armed men, believed to be Lakurawa bandits, invaded the community on November 25, 2025, at about 5:26 a.m.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kamba swiftly mobilised a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene. The security team pursued the attackers, leading to an intense gun battle that lasted for several hours.

Outcome of the Security Engagement

During the exchange of fire, one of the bandits was neutralised. The remaining assailants reportedly fled into a nearby forest, likely with gunshot wounds. The security forces successfully recovered two motorcycles belonging to the fleeing bandits.

The remains of the deceased suspect have been deposited at the General Hospital in Kamba for autopsy procedures. To prevent any reprisal attacks and curb further criminal activities linked to the Lakurawa group, additional police personnel, military troops, and vigilante groups have been deployed to the area.

Commendation and Call for Sustained Synergy

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO of Kamba and the collaborating security agencies for their display of gallantry and professionalism. He urged them to sustain the ongoing synergy in tackling insecurity across Kebbi State.

In a related and distressing development, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa members carried out a separate terror attack. They targeted the Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, along the Maje border in Bagudo Local Government Area.

This attack, which occurred on the midnight of Thursday, resulted in the killing of three Immigration operatives. The incident has left the axis in palpable fear, causing residents to desert the area. It comes less than a month after a customs officer was killed and official vehicles were burnt in the same Maje border area.

While authorities are yet to release an official statement on the Immigration checkpoint attack, eyewitnesses have confirmed the incident. The Lakurawa group has been linked to several attacks in Kebbi State, targeting both security personnel and civilians. The motive behind the latest assault remains unclear as investigations continue.
