Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Nigeria's deteriorating security situation could seriously undermine his chances of securing a second term in the 2027 general elections. The warning, delivered through a statement on Tuesday, September 15, by his media aide Osho Oluwatosin, identified insecurity as a critical challenge as the campaign season approaches.
Security Tensions to Peak in November and December
Ayodele predicted that security conditions would worsen significantly towards the end of the year, with November and December singled out as particularly dangerous months. He cautioned that public frustration would grow and that protests over insecurity were likely to erupt, potentially discrediting the Tinubu administration.
"Security will be one of the things people will be complaining about. Security will be more tense by November/December, and this can discredit his government. He must take care of it because insecurity will begin to cause several issues and in the process, politicians can be kidnapped, convoys can be attacked, and nobody will be saved," Ayodele said.
Campaign Activities at Risk
The Lagos-based cleric also warned that insecurity could disrupt political campaigns across the country. He said the danger would extend to convoys and gatherings, leaving no one immune from the fallout. Ayodele urged security agencies to intensify their efforts, arguing that current measures have not addressed the root of the problem.
"The security operatives are trying, but they haven't gone deep; they are only scratching the surface. It can cause President Tinubu to be surprised by what he doesn't know and what he doesn't see coming. It can even stop people from campaigning," he added.
