Troops Ambush Illegal Miners in Kogi, Arrest Three Suspects in Joint Operation
In a coordinated security effort, troops from Operation MESA, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have successfully ambushed an illegal mining site located in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The operation, which targeted an area allegedly operated by armed Fulani groups, resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of significant evidence.
Details of the Raid and Arrests
The raid was executed at approximately 1:00 p.m. on April 13, 2026, in the Taki area, following meticulous planning between troops of the 12 Brigade and community vigilantes. According to security sources, the three individuals apprehended are primarily members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). During interrogation, the suspects identified themselves as gold dealers and affiliates of the Miyetti Allah socio-cultural organization.
Items seized from the site include a locally made pistol, four cartridges, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, two cutlasses, and a sum of N68,100 in cash. All recovered exhibits and the suspects are currently held in military custody for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
