Vigilante Commander Killed in Bandit Attack on Kwara Security Checkpoint
Mohammed Ndajeba, a vigilante commander in Gbugbu, under the Lafiagi Emirate in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been killed following a violent attack on a joint security checkpoint. The incident occurred along the Gbugbu–Garin Daji Road, where bandits targeted a checkpoint manned by military personnel and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
Attack and Disappearance
Security sources reported that the attack took place on Saturday, February 14, 2026. During the assault, Ndajeba was reported missing, prompting immediate concern among local authorities. In response, a joint search operation was launched, involving army troops, police officers, and local vigilantes, to locate the missing commander and assess the situation.
Discovery of the Body
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the search team later discovered Ndajeba's body in a nearby bush at approximately 6:30 p.m. on the same day. The discovery confirmed fears that he had been killed in the attack, adding to the gravity of the incident and highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Aftermath and Investigation
The remains of Mohammed Ndajeba were released to his family for burial, which was conducted in accordance with Islamic rites. Authorities have stated that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, aiming to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice. This event underscores the persistent threats faced by security operatives and vigilantes in combating banditry and maintaining public safety in Kwara State.
