The Adamawa State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a tragic case of communal violence, apprehending two individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of three women.

Arrests Made in Early Morning Raid

Acting on what they described as actionable intelligence, police operatives moved into the Tigno area of Lamurde Local Government Area in the early hours of Saturday, January 3, 2026. The operation, which took place around 3:30 a.m., led to the capture of the two suspects.

The individuals in custody have been identified as William Joshua, 30, and Ezekiel Luka, 23. Both men are natives of Tigno and are of Bachama extraction.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to a statement released on Sunday, January 4, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the arrests are directly connected to a violent incident reported the previous Friday.

The victims, identified as Mrs Dozimn Lala, Mrs Nirtawi Nwere, and Mrs Walami Wilson, were fatally shot. They were reportedly assisting a Tsobo farmer, Mr Gospel, on his farm when the attack occurred. This event is part of the renewed Bachama–Tsobo communal crisis troubling the region.

A fourth woman, Mrs Grace Wilson, sustained serious gunshot injuries during the same attack. She is currently receiving medical treatment.

Exhibits Recovered and Ongoing Investigation

The police recovery from the suspects points to the severity of the crime. Items seized include:

  • One AK-47 magazine loaded with 29 rounds of live ammunition.
  • One machete.
  • The sum of N90,000 in cash.

SP Nguroje confirmed that the suspects are currently cooperating with investigators, providing useful information. A detailed probe into the matter is ongoing at the command's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The police have also used this development to reassure residents of Lamurde and surrounding communities. They reiterated their commitment to restoring lasting peace and ensuring that all perpetrators of the violence are identified and brought to justice.
