Ogun Police, Joint Forces Arrest 146 Suspects in 'Operation Keep Sagamu Safe'
Operatives from the Sagamu Area Command of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully apprehended 146 suspects during a meticulously coordinated security raid, officially designated as "Operation Keep Sagamu Safe." This extensive operation was launched as a proactive measure to prevent criminal activities and tackle emerging security threats within Sagamu and its neighboring communities.
Multi-Agency Collaboration and Strategic Planning
The exercise showcased a robust joint security response, integrating personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). This collaborative effort was preceded by thorough consultations with traditional rulers, the Sagamu Local Council, and heads of various security agencies to enhance inter-agency cooperation and ensure a unified approach.
According to the command's spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the intelligence-driven operation was executed in the early hours of April 13, 2026. It specifically targeted identified flashpoints where criminal elements were suspected to be operating, posing significant risks to public safety and order.
Objectives and Outcomes of the Security Sweep
Babaseyi emphasized that the primary goal of the operation was to forestall any potential breakdown of law and order while reinforcing public safety across the region. "The suspects are currently undergoing rigorous screening processes to ascertain their level of involvement in criminal activities," he stated. "Those found culpable will be promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and subsequent prosecution."
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the exceptional coordination and professionalism demonstrated by all participating agencies throughout the operation. He reassured residents of Ogun State that the police command remains committed to sustained intelligence-led policing initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and security.
Public Vigilance and Ongoing Security Measures
Commissioner Ojajuni also urged the public to remain vigilant and actively report any suspicious activities or individuals through the command's designated emergency communication lines. This call to action underscores the importance of community involvement in bolstering security efforts and fostering a safer environment for all citizens.
The successful execution of "Operation Keep Sagamu Safe" highlights the effectiveness of integrated security strategies and the critical role of inter-agency collaboration in addressing complex security challenges. As the screening and investigation processes continue, authorities are focused on ensuring that justice is served and that preventive measures are strengthened to safeguard the well-being of communities in Ogun State.
