A 54-year-old man, Samson Nagboje, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by a Delta State High Court for unlawfully having carnal knowledge of his four-year-old stepdaughter. The conviction was delivered by Justice O. Aforkeya, who presided over the court sitting in Isiokolo, after finding the defendant guilty of the offence committed in 2020.

Details of the Offence

According to the prosecution led by Miss Phoebian Onomakpome, an Assistant Director in the Delta State Ministry of Justice, the offence occurred on May 14, 2020, at Eloh Compound, Ovu, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State. The prosecution told the court that Nagboje unlawfully had carnal knowledge of his four-year-old stepdaughter, an offence contrary to the laws of Delta State.

Arrest and Trial

The defendant was earlier arrested by the police and arraigned before the court on June 8, 2020. After the conclusion of the trial, Justice O. Aforkeya, on June 19, 2026, found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly. The court did not give an option of fine, emphasizing the severity of the crime against a minor.
