Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has issued a strong call for the immediate trial and prosecution of a suspected serial killer who murdered a volunteer in Delta State.
Appeal for Swift Justice Following Arrest
Gwamnishu made the appeal while commending the Delta State Police Command for its rapid action in apprehending the suspect. The victim, Christabel Aminu Egedefe, a human rights volunteer residing in Agbor, was tragically killed in her own home.
"While I appreciate the swift efforts of the Delta State Police Command in arresting the suspect, I respectfully appeal that he be promptly charged to court to face justice for his crime," Gwamnishu stated in a social media post on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Details of the Crime and Arrest
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the incident occurred in the victim's apartment located in the Agbor area of Ika South Local Government. The suspect, identified as Michael Ezenwai, was arrested by the Agbor police division on October 24, 2025.
His arrest came as he attempted to sell the victim's stolen phone. During police interrogation, Ezenwai confessed to murdering Christabel Aminu during a robbery at her residence on October 23, 2025.
A Serial Offender and Prison Escapee
Further investigations by the police revealed a more disturbing profile of the suspect. Michael Ezenwai is a confirmed serial offender and was one of the inmates who escaped from the Oko Correctional Centre during the widespread jailbreak in 2020 that was part of the EndSARS protests.
Police records also link Ezenwai to multiple other violent crimes. Notably, he is connected to the 2020 rape and murder case of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). This connection underscores the grave threat he posed to the public since his escape.
The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about public safety and the judicial process for dealing with dangerous escapees. The call for swift prosecution aims to ensure that justice is served for Christabel Aminu and to prevent the suspect from causing further harm.
