Adamawa Man Dies After Alleged Marital Betrayal, Family Shares Emotional Account
A tragic incident in Adamawa State has left a family grieving after a 29-year-old man, identified as Danladi, died following an alleged marital betrayal by his wife. The event, which occurred in the Dikir community of Song Local Government Area on Friday, April 10, has sparked police investigations and raised concerns about domestic distress and suicide prevention.
Details of the Incident
According to family accounts, Danladi's wife, Mercy, had informed him she was attending a burial in her village that morning. However, it was later discovered that she had arranged to meet her ex-lover instead. A villager who recognized Danladi alerted him to the situation, prompting him to rush to the scene. Upon arrival, he found no burial taking place and could not locate Mercy or her ex-lover, as they had already fled.
Returning home distraught, Danladi ingested an overdose of pills meant for a different illness. His friend, who had stepped out briefly, found him unconscious and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 6 p.m. the following day. The family has linked his death directly to the emotional turmoil caused by the alleged betrayal.
Family's Emotional Response
Zacharia Yunusa, Danladi's elder brother, spoke out about the sequence of events, expressing deep sorrow and anger. He revealed that he had previously warned Danladi against marrying Mercy, citing concerns about her character, but his brother, blinded by love, ignored the advice. Danladi, a farmer and cattle rearer, was already married with four children and had taken Mercy as his second wife. The couple had been childless for five years.
Yunusa stated, "I have told Mercy's family to bring her out, because she is the cause of my brother's death, and my family will charge her in court for such an act. She has left us in the pain of losing our brother, his wife, and four children." The family is now pursuing legal action, holding Mercy accountable for the tragedy.

The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed that investigations are ongoing. He emphasized the police's stance against suicide, urging the public to report distress situations early rather than resorting to drastic measures. Nguroje noted that suicide is considered unlawful both legally and religiously, and the command is committed to a thorough legal follow-up to ensure justice is served.
