In a significant joint security operation, a member of the Nigerian Air Force has been apprehended while allegedly transporting a cache of weapons to the nation's capital.
Arrest at Kabba Junction
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, stationed at Kabba Junction in Lokoja, Kogi State, detained Air Craftman Anas Muhammed Fakai at approximately 10:22 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The operation was conducted in close cooperation with operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Fakai, who is officially assigned to the 107 AIR Maritime Group located on Airport Road in Benin, Edo State, was found in possession of illicit firearms. The seized items included two pump-action guns and a Browning pistol.
Weapons Destined for Police Personnel
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect made startling revelations about the intended destination of the weapons. He claimed the firearms were to be delivered to Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, who is attached to the Police Headquarters in Abuja and serves as an orderly to a Commissioner of Police.
Fakai further disclosed that the weapons had been handed over to him by an Inspector Paul, who is currently posted to the Government House in Benin, Edo State. Investigations into the suspect's background revealed that he attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019.
According to a Special Situation Report from the military, the suspect and the seized weapons remain in custody pending further directives. Authorities have not yet indicated whether other personnel involved in the alleged arms transfer are under investigation or have been detained.
Linked Cannabis Interception in Kogi
This arrest comes on the heels of another major interception by the 12 Brigade. On November 24, 2025, troops deployed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search operation on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU.
The operation resulted in the discovery of a large consignment of Cannabis Sativa being transported from Ekiti State to Obajana in Kogi State. In a statement, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, stated that this discovery is part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action.
The army confirmed that disrupting the flow of such illicit substances is crucial, as they frequently contribute to the rise of banditry and other violent crimes across Kogi State. Obajana village, the intended destination of the drugs, is also the location of the Dangote Cement factory and is known to be a haven for banditry and various forms of criminality.
