Anambra Police Arraign Man for Incest with Daughter

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned Ikenna Mojekwu before the Gender Magistrate Court in Awka on charges of alleged incest for engaging in unlawful sexual acts with his 14-year-old daughter in Aguluzoigbo, Anaocha Local Government Area.

Other Suspects Arraigned for Defilement and Rape

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed in a statement on 6 July 2026 that two other suspects were also arraigned for defilement and rape following the conclusion of investigations. The statement read: "The Anambra State Police Command has continued to demonstrate its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence with the arraignment of three suspects before the Gender Magistrate Court sitting in Awka on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026."

Details of the Charges

The suspects were arraigned on separate charges bordering on alleged incest, defilement, and rape. Among them is Ikenna Mojekwu, charged with incest for reportedly engaging in unlawful sexual acts with his 14-year-old daughter. Also arraigned was Chibuike Ikemelu, who allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl, resulting in pregnancy in Abatete. The third suspect, Chukwuma Emenike, aged 16, was arraigned for defiling an 8-year-old girl in Umuoji.

Court Proceedings and Adjournment

The suspects were arraigned after police investigations and were remanded in accordance with court orders. The matters have been adjourned to later dates for further hearing. The command reiterated its resolve to investigate and diligently prosecute all cases involving sexual and gender-based violence, encouraging victims and the public to promptly report such offences.

"We assure that every report will be treated with the seriousness it deserves while safeguarding the rights of victims and ensuring due process," the statement added.
