The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi, the officer seen in a viral video threatening violence against anyone who films him while on duty. In the video, the officer was heard saying he would shoot dead any individual who dared to record him during his official duties.
Public Outcry and Immediate Action
Following widespread public outrage, the command swiftly identified and apprehended the officer. The arrest was part of efforts to uphold the disciplinary standards and ethical code of the Nigeria Police Force.
Internal Disciplinary Proceedings
Internal disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against ASP Isokpehi. As part of the ongoing investigation, the officer has been subjected to a drug test to help the command establish all surrounding circumstances and ensure a thorough and transparent process.
Commissioner's Condemnation
The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the conduct displayed by the officer in the video. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined institution that will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, incitement, or any form of unprofessional behavior capable of undermining public trust and confidence.
