Anambra Varsity Dismisses Five Staff Over Misconduct

The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has approved the dismissal of five staff members, including two professors, two senior lecturers, and a principal assistant registrar, for gross misconduct. The decision was reached during the council's 122nd meeting held on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Details of the Dismissals

According to a statement by the institution's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, the dismissed staff include Prof. C. C. Nwabachili, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science. Also dismissed were Dr. I. H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus, over sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, and extortion. Additionally, Mrs. Ifeoma Kakulu, a Principal Assistant Registrar and former Examination Officer for the Faculty of Law, was dismissed for related ethical misconduct.

Council's Stance on Discipline

The council reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and integrity, warning that actions tarnishing the university's reputation would face severe consequences. It promised to ensure a safe, accountable, and forward-thinking atmosphere, aligning with the vision of building a university for now and the future.
