Businessman Sues Ex-Wife for Refusing to Leave His House

A Nigerian businessman, Abibu Yakubu, has filed a legal petition against his ex-wife at the Upper Area Court 1 in Karu, accusing her of refusing to leave his residence following their divorce. The case, which also involves a request for custody of their four children, was initiated on October 13, 2025.

Details of the Petition

According to the particulars of the claim, Yakubu, a resident of Orange Market in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, stated that the respondent, Shuwadatu Mohammed, is his former wife and continues to reside at the same address. He alleged that Mohammed shows disrespect toward him and his parents, frequently resorting to insults.

Marriage and Children

The marriage produced four children, aged 22, 19, and six-year-old twins. Yakubu claimed that he divorced his wife approximately five years ago, but she has refused to vacate his property. He further alleged that she threatened to kill him, stating she would not leave until he is dead.

Threats and Safety Concerns

Yakubu asserted that Mohammed occupies his house and has threatened his life, leaving him unable to sleep with peace of mind. He prayed the court to hold the respondent accountable if any harm comes to him. Additionally, he requested a redissolution of the marriage and custody of all four children.

Court Proceedings

The presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, after hearing the matter, adjourned the case until June 3 for continued hearing.
