A violent family tragedy in Adamawa State has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a police investigation into the alleged killing of a father by his own children. The incident, rooted in years of reported domestic abuse, underscores the deadly consequences of unresolved family conflicts.
A Fatal Confrontation in Gwedamallam
The Adamawa State Police Command is investigating a disturbing case from the Gwedamallam community in Numan Local Government Area. According to authorities, the event occurred on the night of Saturday, January 3, 2026. Two siblings allegedly confronted their father, beat him severely, tied him with a rope, and dragged him, leading to his death.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed that information about the incident reached the police on January 3, prompting immediate action. On Friday, January 9, 2026, officers arrested one of the sons involved. During interrogation, a harrowing tale of prolonged domestic violence emerged as the motive behind the fatal attack.
Years of Abuse Alleged as Motive
The arrested suspect told investigators that their father was a habitual drunkard. He claimed that whenever the man was intoxicated, he would return home late and physically assault their mother. The situation was reportedly so severe that the two children, who reside in Lagos, had relocated their mother to live with them there, leaving their younger sister behind with the father in Numan.
The suspect alleged that the final trigger was a call from his younger brother, who complained about their father beating their sister daily. On the fateful night, the father reportedly returned home drunk around 1 a.m.. The two siblings then attacked him, tying him up with the stated intention of teaching him a lesson, not killing him.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing shouts from the house around 2 a.m.. When people approached, the children threatened them and fled the scene. Police found the father tied with a rope upon arrival.
Police Hunt for Justice and Issue Stern Warning
SP Nguroje stated that while the arrested son claims sole responsibility, the police are actively investigating and hunting for the second sibling. "We will not relent till we seek justice for the deceased," he affirmed. The arrested individual has been charged to court and will face the legal consequences of his actions.
The police spokesperson used the opportunity to issue a strong warning to the public against taking the law into their own hands. "We urge the public not to be taking laws into their hands, no matter the level of anger. Always report to the police, and we assure you, we will take the necessary measures," Nguroje advised. He emphasized that domestic violence is a crime that should be reported to authorities so that perpetrators can be lawfully dealt with, serving as a lesson to all.
This tragic case highlights the escalating concerns over domestic violence and insecurity in Adamawa State, which have left many residents living in fear. It also brings to the fore the critical need for professional intervention in abusive households before situations reach a fatal boiling point.
