Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register, pending the determination of his case. The ruling also granted him bail set at ₦100 million with one surety in like sum.
Bail Conditions Imposed
Justice Abdulmalik stipulated that the surety must be a resident of either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and must deposit a Certificate of Occupancy for a landed property at the court registry. Additionally, the surety is required to be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17, with proof of salary payments for at least three months. These documents will be verified through a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additional Requirements
The court also ordered the former governor to submit an affidavit of means, execute a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph. Furthermore, El-Rufai must surrender all valid international passports. The surety must provide a verification letter from their department as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
The judge warned that any breach of the bail conditions would lead to automatic revocation of the bail. Additionally, the court ordered the submission of a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council as part of the bail requirements.
