Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register, pending the determination of his case.
The judge also granted bail to El-Rufai in the sum of ₦100 million, with one surety in like amount. In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik imposed conditions on the surety, including residency in either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja, and the deposit of a Certificate of Occupancy for a landed property at the court registry.
The surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17, with proof of salary payments for at least three months. These documents are to be verified through a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
Further conditions include the submission of an affidavit of means, execution of a bail bond, and provision of a recent passport photograph. The court also ordered the former governor to surrender all valid international passports and mandated that the surety provide a verification letter from their department, as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
The judge warned that any breach of the bail conditions would lead to its automatic revocation. Additionally, the court ordered the submission of a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council as part of the bail requirements.
This development marks a significant step in the legal proceedings involving the former governor, who faces charges yet to be fully disclosed. The monthly reporting to DSS ensures his availability for trial while under judicial oversight.
