Dangote Salt Supports Artisans, Boosts Community Ties

Dangote Salt recently strengthened its ties with local communities through a series of outreach activities during the Sallah celebration, emphasizing the essential role of salt in traditional industries and everyday life. The initiative covered artisan clusters and commercial centers in Kano, highlighting salt's importance beyond household use and reinforcing the company's commitment to supporting communities whose livelihoods depend on its products.

Engagement with Traditional Artisans

The outreach began at Yan Mota, one of Nigeria's oldest tanning communities, where craftsmen continue centuries-old leatherworking traditions that have made Kano a major leather production hub in West Africa. During the visit, artisans demonstrated how salt is crucial for preserving and treating animal hides before processing. Dangote Salt donated 50kg industrial bags of salt to support their operations.

The company also visited the historic Kofar Mata dye pits, known for producing locally dyed textiles. Craftsmen explained how salt contributes to fabric treatment and dye preparation, ensuring quality and consistency. Industrial-sized bags of Dangote Salt were distributed to the dyeing community, recognizing their contribution to local economic development.

Consumer Activation at Sabon Gari Market

The campaign later moved to Sabon Gari Market, where Dangote Salt and Dangote Seasoning organized a consumer activation program attracting traders, shoppers, and residents. The event featured product exhibitions, wellness discussions, entertainment, and interactive sessions on nutrition, healthy eating habits, and food preparation.

Sales Operations Manager of NASCON Allied Industries Plc, Salisu Balarabe, stated: "Markets remain at the heart of our communities and everyday interactions. Bringing this experience directly to people allows us to engage beyond transactions and build stronger relationships with consumers and trade partners."

Wellness Session and Community Impact

A major highlight was a wellness session led by medical practitioner Dr. Amina Sa'id Muhammad, who educated participants on the nutritional value of iodized salt and its role in maintaining good health. The session addressed iodine deficiency, proper salt consumption, hydration, muscle function, and general wellbeing, allowing traders and consumers to ask questions and share experiences.

This activation is not only about showcasing our products. We want consumers to see Dangote Salt and Dangote Seasoning as part of everyday life and part of the moments that bring families and communities together."

The event ended on a festive note with a surprise appearance by popular actor and musician Umar M Shareef, whose performance excited traders and visitors. Field Sales Officer Kamal Yakubu praised the market community for their participation and support.
