Domestic Worker Intercepted While Transporting Stolen Lexus to Abuja

The Niger State Police Command has made a significant arrest involving a domestic worker who allegedly stole a luxury vehicle from his employer in Lagos. Suleiman Audu, 35, from Kubwa, Abuja was apprehended while attempting to transport the stolen Lexus SUV to Abuja for disposal.

Police Operation Leads to Arrest

According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the breakthrough occurred on November 19, 2025, at approximately 2:50 PM. Police operatives attached to the Paiko Division intercepted an unregistered grey Lexus Jeep at Farindoki village along the Minna-Abuja road.

The suspect was driving the vehicle toward Abuja when police stopped him for questioning. During interrogation, Audu failed to provide a satisfactory explanation about the vehicle's ownership and his mission, leading to his immediate arrest.

Investigation Reveals Lagos Connection

Preliminary investigation uncovered that the suspect had regular access to the vehicle through his domestic work arrangements. Audu typically assisted the vehicle owner with car washing and other domestic chores at a residence in Lagos, which provided him the opportunity to steal the luxury SUV.

Police investigations confirmed that the domestic worker had planned to dispose of the stolen vehicle in Abuja, where he intended to find buyers for the expensive car.

The police statement revealed that the legitimate owner of the Lexus SUV has been successfully traced and contacted about the recovery of their vehicle. Meanwhile, both the suspect and the recovered vehicle have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and possible prosecution.

This case highlights the importance of thorough background checks when hiring domestic staff and demonstrates the effectiveness of police surveillance on major transportation routes in combating cross-state criminal activities.
