DSS Arrests Suspected Female Gunrunner with 200 Rounds of Ammunition in Kano
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have made a significant arrest in Kano State, apprehending a 25-year-old woman, Nadisa Usman, who is suspected of specializing in supplying ammunition to terrorists in Katsina State. The arrest occurred at one of the major motor parks in Kano, following a tip-off that led to an interception during a targeted operation.
Details of the Ammunition Recovery
During the arrest, DSS operatives recovered 200 rounds of brand new ammunition from the suspect. The ammunition was cleverly concealed inside bags of garri and rice, highlighting the sophisticated methods used in this illicit trade. This discovery underscores the ongoing challenges in combating arms trafficking in the region.
Suspect's Background and Confession
Nadisa Usman hails from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. In her confession, she revealed that the ammunition was supplied to her from Lafia in Nasarawa State and delivered to Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano. From there, it was intended for transportation to Katsina to supply bandits operating in the Kankara bush.
She further disclosed that she had been involved in this dangerous trade for approximately two months. According to her, a person identified as "Teso," who she described as working with a soldier in Lafia, used to send the consignments to her. This raises serious concerns about potential collusion within security forces.
Connections to Bandit Networks
The suspect alleged that she supplied the ammunition to a bandit known as Mallam Haruna, who is said to be operating in the Kankara forest. She was introduced to Haruna by a man named Sulaiman, a livestock trader based in Kano. Additionally, she claimed to have conducted transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition not only to Haruna but also to other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, who are also active in the forest area.
Regret and Legal Proceedings
Expressing regret over her involvement, Nadisa Usman stated that she now feels exposed and remorseful for her actions. The DSS official handling the case disclosed that upon completion of the investigation, she will be prosecuted in court. This arrest is part of broader efforts to dismantle networks that fuel terrorism and banditry in northern Nigeria.
The case highlights the critical role of intelligence and community cooperation in disrupting illegal arms supplies, as authorities continue to tackle security threats in regions like Katsina and Kano.
