In a statement issued on Monday in Abakaliki, the command's spokesperson, Superintendent Joshua Ukandu, described the claims as false and intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents.

Mr. Ukandu specifically addressed viral reports alleging that bandits and herders had invaded the Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area. He labeled these reports as misleading and urged the public to disregard them. The police spokesman emphasized that the command acted swiftly upon receiving information about a video in which a narrator made the allegations.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon learning of the viral video, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Urunwa Okafor, directed the Divisional Police Officer of Edda Division to verify the claims. Simultaneously, tactical teams from the command headquarters were deployed to the area for a thorough assessment. Mr. Ukandu explained that security operatives conducted extensive search and combing operations in the affected bushes and surrounding areas.
