A joyous wedding celebration in Yobe State tragically descended into violence on Tuesday evening, leaving one man dead and several others wounded following a brutal family dispute.

Violence Erupts at Wedding Venue

The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on January 13, 2026, at the residence of Wakili Sumaye in Kayari village, Fune Local Government Area. What began as a disagreement between members of the Manu and Ibrahim families quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the intense altercation, individuals armed with cutlasses attacked each other, inflicting serious injuries. The local police were alerted to the scene of the violent clash.

Victims and Police Response

Four injured men from the same address were transported to the Damagum Divisional Police Headquarters. They were immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Damagum for urgent medical attention. The victims have been identified as:

  • Abdullahi Manu, 30
  • Adamu Manu, 27
  • Ilyasu Manu, 30
  • Mohammadu Ibrahim, 20

Tragically, upon arrival at the hospital, Abdullahi Manu was confirmed dead by the attending medical doctor. The other three individuals received treatment for the severe cutlass wounds they sustained during the fight.

Investigation Launched, Suspects at Large

The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed that a thorough investigation into the incident has commenced. Authorities are actively pursuing suspects who fled the scene after the violent confrontation.
