General's Widow Rescued by Nigerian Army After Husband's Death

The widow of a retired Nigerian army general, who was killed by bandits, has been rescued by security forces. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Abubakar Rabe, was freed by the Nigerian army just 48 hours after her husband's death was announced by their captors.

Kidnapping and Death

Major General Rabe and his wife were abducted on May 30 near the Matazu area of Katsina State while traveling to a wedding. The retired general was reportedly killed on Saturday, June 13. The bandits had previously released a video showing the widow reading their demands, which included the release of three of their members: Aminu, Nasiru, and Sani. She stated that two of the detained terrorists were arrested in Jikamshi, and the third in Kano. She appealed to the Katsina State government and leaders of five local government areas to comply with the demands to secure their release.

Army Rescue Operation

In the same video, the retired general called for peace efforts, noting that the terrorists had expressed readiness for dialogue. However, Nigerian troops tracked the bandits and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, leading to the rescue of the widow. As of the time of this report, full details of the operation have not been disclosed.
