Ghanaian Convict Evades UK Authorities in Second Hospital Escape

A Ghanaian prisoner, who is due to be deported from the United Kingdom, has gone on the run for the second time in less than a week after a fresh security blunder. Daniel Boakye, a 21-year-old convicted robber, reportedly escaped while under police custody during a hospital visit, highlighting ongoing concerns about detention protocols.

Details of the Escape Incidents

According to reports, Boakye first went missing from HMP Feltham, a prison in west London, on Tuesday last week. He was subsequently found at an address in south-east London the following day. However, in a startling turn of events, he managed to escape again on Sunday, February 15, while receiving medical treatment at Lewisham hospital.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed the incident, stating that Boakye absconded at approximately 15:05 hours. Officers gave chase but were unable to detain him before he left the building. The Met has launched a review to understand the full sequence of events, and its Directorate of Professional Standards is aware of the situation.

Background and Criminal Activities

Boakye, formerly of Alma Road in Enfield, was sentenced to six years and five months in prison in July 2023 for conspiracy to commit robbery and an additional robbery offence. Between June 2021 and January 2022, he and three other teenagers engaged in a spree of robberies and attempted robberies across London.

Armed with knives, the group forced victims to hand over their mobile phones and provide passcodes to unlock them. They then transferred victims' cryptocurrency into 'hot wallets', stealing more than £115,000 in total. Additionally, they used stored bank details to purchase top-up cards, pay for taxi fares, and complete other fraudulent transactions.

Current Manhunt and Public Appeal

Authorities are actively searching for Boakye, who is described as black, of medium height, and slim build. At the time of his escape, he was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket. The police have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact them on 999, quoting CAD4005/15FEB, or to call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.

It is understood that Boakye is awaiting deportation to Ghana, adding urgency to the manhunt. This incident marks his second escape from custody in a short period, raising questions about the effectiveness of security measures for high-risk detainees.
