The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a hammer, trying to strangle her, and stealing N100,000 from her. The command's spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had requested money from the victim, a businesswoman, but she refused. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 9, when the suspect allegedly gained unlawful access to the victim's residence at Riyal Quarters by scaling the fence and forcefully breaking into her room.
According to the statement, the victim reported the incident at Pantami Divisional Headquarters, Gombe, stating that at about 0200hrs on the same date, her boyfriend unlawfully entered her home. The suspect allegedly attacked her with an iron hammer and attempted to strangle her using a USB cable before robbing her of N100,000.
Upon raising an alarm, the suspect fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where she was later discharged. Police operatives promptly visited the scene after receiving the complaint.
Following a swift investigation, the suspect was traced and arrested at about 0945hrs on the same day. Recovered exhibits include one iron hammer with suspected blood stains and one USB cable.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, reiterated the command's commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to report suspicious persons and criminal activities to the nearest police station. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, and he will be charged to court upon conclusion.
